Cllr Chris Read – Labour Leader of Rotherham Council – has called on the owners of RotherFM to save our local radio station. This comes after Bauer Media Group recently announced plans to reconfigure their radio network.

Earlier this year, Bauer revealed their proposals to fold some local radio stations into a national platform. This will lead to some areas losing their local radio networks as they become rebranded into this national station.

Last week, Cllr Chris Read wrote to the Managing Director of Bauer calling for our local RotherFM to be saved under these plans. You can read the letter below.

Local radio stations are a key part of our communities, offering news and content at a local level for residents and listeners. A national radio platform without this local identify would be a great loss to our community.

Cllr Chris Read – Labour Leader of Rotherham Council – has said:

Local radio stations like Rother FM make up an important part of the community, reflecting local interests and needs, staffed by people who live in and around those communities. For local councillors like me, they provide a valuable platform to be held to account, making up a critical part of our local democratic process.

“Losing that local voice weakens our community, and I hope your group will reconsider your plans and save our local stations.
