Rotherham’s bus services are facing a disaster. Without additional support from the government, from October as many as 1 in 3 local buses might be taken off the road.

That will mean it’s harder to get to school, harder to get to work, harder to make hospital and doctors’ appointments.

Older residents and those least able to afford to run a car will be hardest hit – and of course it’s bad news for traffic and the environment too.

But we can avoid this, if the Conservative government just maintains the funding South Yorkshire’s buses received during Covid, until the time that bus use returns to pre-Covid levels. That’s all they need to do.

We need to put as much pressure on the government as possible.
