Rotherham has the fastest growing local economy in the North of the whole of the UK according to latest research. This is the findings in the UK Powerhouse report produced by Irwin Mitchell, a quartley report which provides regional economic analysis across the UK. This research confirms the success Rotherham is enjoying in bringing in record investment and growth to the borough.

The latest UK Powerhouse report published this month highlights that Rotherham enjoyed economic growth of 1.4% in the third quarter of 2018. Accordingly to the analysis, this places Rotherham as the 15th best performing local economy in the UK. Our economy isn’t just the best performing in Yorkshire though as the UK Powerhouse table lists Rotherham as the fastest growing economy in the whole of the North of the UK.

This analysis confirms the great progress that has been made in attracting significant investment and economic growth in the borough. In recent months we’ve seen the opening of the new £50m McLaren factory in Rotherham, the opening of the new University Centre Rotherham facility in the town centre and the launching of the UK’s first tram-train service in connecting our town and Sheffield.

There are further big projects taking shape that will continue to drive economic growth for Rotherham as well. Most notably, there is the town centre master-plan and the regeneration works planned on Forge Island which has recently been successful in securing a developer for the project. There’s also the £12m refurbishment of Rotherham Interchange which is due for completion in the coming weeks as well.
